Funding and rebates for speech pathology services

Rehab Connection provides private speech pathology services. It is important to us that our clients are able to access applicable funding options and rebates for our services as quickly as possible. That’s why we have complied the following information, for your easy reference:

Private health cover
Chronic Disease Management (CDM) – Medicare
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Lifetime Care and Support Scheme
Workers’ compensation

Private health cover

If you have private health insurance, you are able to claim speech pathology assessment and therapy sessions through your extras cover. Your rebate will depend on the amount per session and the level of cover you have. Rebates vary between health funds. Contact your health fund directly for details.

Chronic Disease Management (CDM) – Medicare

For clients who have a chronic condition and complex care needs that are being managed by a GP, you may be eligible for a rebate on speech pathology services under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. Your GP nominates the number of sessions, up to a maximum of five, per calendar year.

Note: Clients are unable to claim a Medicare rebate and a private health insurance rebate for the same service – you must choose which rebate you are going to claim for the service.

Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)

If you have a Gold DVA card, you are eligible for rebates on speech pathology services. White DVA cardholders are eligible speech pathology services funding, in some circumstances. For details on eligibility, here’s a helpful fact sheet (PDF).

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Rehab Connection is a registered service provider for the NDIS. Given the scheme is currently being rolled out in NSW, we encourage you to contact the NDIS with your questions about accessing support for mobile speech pathology services.

Lifetime Care and Support Scheme (LCTS)

LCTS provides people who have been severely injured in motor accidents in NSW with treatment, rehabilitation and care, including access to private speech pathology services. To be eligible, you must meet specific criteria for both the injury and the motor accident.

Workers’ compensation

If you’ve been injured at work, it’s necessary that there is a collaborative effort between you, your employer and insurer to ensure you can recover and return to work safely and as soon as possible. Should you require access to speech pathology services, start by making a claim.
