Speech is talking – it’s the oral form of communicating. Speech occurs when we make rapid, coordinated movements of the jaw, lips, teeth, tongue, palate and larynx (voice). A speech disorder describes a breakdown in this complex process.
Acquired speech disorders can occur suddenly or progress gradually. The technical names for acquired speech disorders, include dysarthria and dyspraxia.
Rehab Connection has a strong background assessing, diagnosing and developing targeted management plans for adults experiencing difficulty speaking.
Speech disorders and language disorders may occur separately, or for some people, at the same time.
Who can benefit
For adults with difficulty speaking, Rehab Connection can evaluate and treat specific difficulties, including slurred, slowed, hoarse, stuttered, or rapid speech.
What we can do
At Rehab Connection, we are highly-trained speech pathologists, who identify ways to support clients to maximise their abilities. We may also recommend supplemental methods of communicating like Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
An initial assessment session usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours. In some circumstances, an additional assessment session may be required. We will provide a summary report, on completion.
We’re a mobile service
Rehab Connection is a private speech pathology service, that’s mobile! Based in Sydney, we have extensive experience treating clients with speech difficulties in multiple settings – from hospitals, to group homes, private homes, aged care facilities and workplaces.
