Swallowing assessment and therapy for adults

Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) have many causes – damage to the brain or structures of the head and neck, stroke, head injury and Parkinson’s disease (and other neurodegenerative disorders) and ageing.

Rehab Connection can help reduce and compensate for swallowing problems in adults. Our focus is on safety and quality of life when eating, drinking and taking medication.

Who can benefit

Adults who have trouble swallowing – because they can be at-risk of suffering from life-threatening medical problems, including aspiration pneumonia, choking, poor nutrition and dehydration.

What we can do

Following a full assessment, we will diagnose the swallowing condition – and provide evidence-based diet modifications, rehabilitation techniques and exercises to facilitate safe swallowing.

An initial assessment session usually takes 1 to 1.5 hours. In some circumstances, an additional assessment session may be required. We will provide a summary report, on completion.

We’re a mobile service

Rehab Connection is a private speech pathology service, that’s mobile! Based in Five Dock, we have extensive experience treating clients with swallowing difficulties in multiple settings – from hospitals, to group homes, private homes, aged care facilities and day programs.
